Do You Want To Be A Beat Maker

                                                                               icon2 Filed under: Uncategorized | icon2 No Comments »

There is a lot of confusion in the industry sorounding the beats. Some beat makers consider themselves producers, because they truly don’t understand that being a producer involves a lot more than creating beats.

Click for the best, most recommended beat maker

Being a producer involves anything from songwriting, finding songwriters, vocal arrangement and production, mixing, finding engineers, booking studio time, handling production budgets, setting up studio time, and soooo much more that doesn’t even involve making beats.

In fact, there are some producers in the industry that never even touch an instrument or music computer.

I am more than just a beatmaker who plays multiple instruments and creates the beats, but I am truly a music producer who is involved in the entire process. I will state that there is nothing wrong with being just a beat maker.

The process of creating rap beats, hip hop beats, as well as r&b instrumentals is the fun part of the industry, and anyone who only has the responsibility of making beats can and should be grateful that they can focus on the fun and creative part while some other sucker has to go and do the rest of the dirty work.

But I can’t really complain about the other things. I have always been fascinated with the process of starting with nothing, and creating a finished masterpiece from beginning to end. That is why I choose to involve myself in the entire process of hit song creation.

I enjoy the fact that I can hear something in my head, start making the beat, putting writers on to write the song, work with the artist in the studio to record vocals, work with my engineers or on my own to mix the record, master it, and put it in the hands of the management company or label exec, and watch it hit the airwaves.

How George Lucas created movie merchandising

                                                                               icon2 Filed under: Uncategorized | icon2 No Comments »

This bank holiday was apparently ‘national star wars day’- everybody get ready with the ‘may the forth be with you -hahaha. But this made me think about the movies- and in particular the huge amounts of merchandise that have come out alongside the movies all these years. There were toys, t-shirts, bubble bath, books, cds -you name it, it has yoda’s face on it, but there lies the genius of George Lucas.

Star Wars was probably the first film to really merchandise a film -and it worked better than anyone would’ve thought it wouldve. In Lucas’s contract he got to have the merchandising rights, which 20 century Fox werent to bothered with at the time -why would they? No one could have predicted how successful this movie was going to be -Even George Lucas didnt know- he just had a shrewd idea of how to market the movies. Taking the merchandising rights allowed him to produced what he wanted to help sell the movie -and when Star wars mania hit the world, he just couldnt keep up with the demand for the promotional merchandise. This demand also helped convince the banks to help fund Lucas for the second Star wars movie and put more money into his company LucasFilm.

Star Wars not only changed filmaking in Holywood, but also the way movies are were marketed. Ever since there have been art books, action figures, t-shirts and many more items of branded merchandise. The bigger movie companies saw the dollar signs appear in their eyes and started cranking out the merchandise by the thousands- but given the money that was being generated can we blame them? It means more exposure for the movie with people owning he merchandise and much more money for the studios. Because most of us, even if its just one item, have some form of movie merchandise lying around the house -posters, t-shirts, cds, books -the potential for it is huge -and George Lucas took advantage of it to help his ’small space picture’ out.

The genuises of classical music -Bach, Beethoven and Mozart

                                                                               icon2 Filed under: Uncategorized | icon2 No Comments »

Here’s a short run through of three talented musical compsers in classical music.

Ludwig Van Beethoven. Beethoven may be the most famous compsers more to the fact that he composed, wrote and performed his music while becomming deaf in his early twenties. Beethoven was born in December 1770, his grandfather with the same name and his father both had worked in the court of the Elector of Cologne, as later he did. Beethoven moved to Vienna to study counterpoint and violin in 1792, a move that was funded by the Elector. Beethoven noticed he was loosing his hearing in 1796 while in Vienna, which has been rumoured to be because of lead posioning. Beethoven’s work is usually divided into three different parts- the early, middle and later periods. The early period was said to be influenced by Mozart and lasted up until 1806, the middle period went from 1803 untill 1814, and the late period from 1815 until his death.

Wolfgang Mozart. Born in 1756, Mozart is considered one of the greast in classical music, having also wrote over 600 pieces of music. A child prodigy, Mozart performed to royalty and composed music from as early as five years old. He was even employed as a court musician in Sazlburg from the age of 17. When he visited Vienna is decided to stay there -and this is the city where he became famous, but not rich by any means. Mozart suffered from Rheumatic fever, which is what was believed to have killed him in 1791.

Bach. Bach was born in Germany in March 1685 and was a composer and organist, influential in the Baroque period and helping to bring the period to maturity. Bach’s talent for composing was only really acknowledged during the 19th century after renewed interest in his work. He was only credited as a talented organist during his lifetime. Bach was an orphan at 10 years old and went to live with his brother, who was also a musician -most of Bach’s family were. From his elder brother and guardian Bach learned to play the Clavicord and became proficent in music. Two of his children from his first marriage helped to shape the classical music style of Rococo -Carl and Wilhem. He was hired by Prince Leopold of Anhalt-Cöthen as his court’s director of music, during this time Bach lost his wife in 1720 and remarried a year later. In 1723, Bach was appointed Cantor of Thomasschule, a posistion he held until his death in 1750.

Beginners - Create Music on Your Computer Today in 6 Simplified Steps

                                                                               icon2 Filed under: Uncategorized | icon2 No Comments »

The dream of making your own music is becoming ever more attainable and reachable as technology  moves on and the rising popularity of online social networking communities. You still need to begin somewhere and get past the technical jargon and learning curve - these 6 steps will point you in the right way and aid you in preparing a strategy to get where you want to go as speedily as you can.

With only your computer and net connection there’s now no need to try and get a record contract with some label as you can create, produce and advertise yourself independently on-line all the way. Be it simply for entertainment and hobby or if you plan to go all the way and “fire your boss” when your music download sales are funding your life style and getting you acknowledged.

Step 1 - Resolve to take some action every day, baby steps, don’t expect to learn it all at once. Designate a slot of time every day to learn and apply what you learn. Preferably do this before anything else - in other words don’t leave it until “if you’ve got time after all your other daily chores”. Put this action before anything else you do, even if it’s only for 15 minutes a day.

Step 2 - Focus on the end result not the instruments and methods to get you there. People make the mistake of attempting to interpret how the engine operates when all they really need to know is how to drive the car. Keep your eye on the prize and let the rest fall into place.

Step 3 - Find a system, program, set of tutorials and stay with it. There is too much information overload out there that can bog you down and make you lose interest or even sadder give up. Find a  good simple system with practical applications to get you learning through doing.

Step 4 - Enjoy it, keep it fun and creative, if it stops being fun do something else for a spell and come back to it. There will be times when it grows a bit overwhelming, think of the baby steps and  take a step back if need be.

Step 5 - Get involved in the on-line music communities. There is an always growing music community on-line. Jump in and become involved. Check out communities of other self-directed artists and musicians.  Add them to our Myspace/Facebook friends, follow them on Twitter, listen to their music for inspiration and ideas - talk to them on-line, pick their brains! They’ve been where you are today and can slash your learning curve substantially.

Step 6 - Take some action today to bring you nearer to producing your own material that loads of people will download and love. Even if it’s just joining a forum, signing up to Myspace or starting up some online tutorials targeted at complete novices - do something today - why wait?

Dot-Funk.com is an on-line resource targeted at the total beginner to make music online with tutorials, articles, resources and product critiques. The newcomer tutorials are specifically designed to get the total  novice up and functioning as rapidly and painlessly as possible while quickly crushing the learning curve and technological lingo and learning curve.

Beat Machine Downloads Online

                                                                               icon2 Filed under: Uncategorized | icon2 No Comments »

I don’t know about you but I’m not too crazy about those cheesy free beat machine downloads they have sprinkled all over the internet. You do know that these aren’t free. There is no charge for these demo’s. Yes that’s right you can demo them for free but if you want to own them then you have to pay for a license.

This software is known as shareware or freeware. If you are not familiar with this type of software it is utilized by developers as a trial for a limited time. You won’t get full version rights with this type of download. Most of these freeware or shareware downloads do not allow you save your music.

If you haven’t already seen it, the vast majority of these beat machine softwares are rather pricey. In looking at some of the available beat machines online you need a college degree just to figure it out. I like things that are priced reasonably and are easy enough to use right out of the box so to speak.

I found this great little beat machine that has mp3 export capability and features tutorials that not only teach you how to use the beat machine but also how to use it with different instruments. They have a great site and yes they too have a free trial and their very own beat machine downloads. They are not limited to PC’s. Besides having a member’s area they also have an online staff that you can consult with for help. Very cool. So easy to use even a 7 year old can do it. It is frankly amazing how inexpensive this software is and just how many features it has, not to mention it’s ease of use.

Beat machines are pretty popular right now whether it be for rap or R&B everyone wants one. Look around to find the right software for your use. My advice is to try different versions of these beat machines until you find the right one. But if you can’t wait and don’t want to go to all the different sites then try this link for a some really good beat machine downloads

Live Performance Today - Follow up Tomorrow

                                                                               icon2 Filed under: Uncategorized | icon2 No Comments »

The small time promoter has to work hard and on a shoestring to get an audience of a few hundred people to fill a venue. Flyers, word-of-mouth and social networks are some of the methods promoters can use to try and encourage people to venues or club nights. Building up a loyal following from scratch is not easy. Given the amount of effort it can take to fill even the smallest of venues promoters really need to capitalise on all their efforts and use the event itself to maximise the opportunity to encourage further audience contact.

Online surveys can, with a little thought and minimal outlay, be used to provide the promoter with good feedback and the opportunity to engage in further contact with the audience. Using online Survey Software a promoter can now quickly and easily create an online survey.

With an online survey a promoter can find out exactly:-

  • who attended;
  • what persuaded them;
  • what they thought of the event;
  • would they expect to attend again;
  • would they recommend future events to their friends.

A good way to ensure a good response is to have a supply of business sized cards that are marked clearly with a slogan like “Feedback”, “Your opinion counts”, “Tell us what you thought”. On each card a web address will point either directly to the survey or to a website where a link to the survey can be placed. The cards can be issued at the door with the tickets, or handed out among the audience and being the size of business cards they are small enough to be stuck in a pocket, purse or wallet. A small incentive such as a chance to win a free guest pass for a future event, a signed CD or T shirt may improve the response rate.

Using the results from online surveys the promoter is able to:

  • Obtain a profile of the audience
  • Gauge the overall success of the event;
  • Measure the effectiveness of different promotion;
  • Receive feedback on the venue and facilities;
  • Receive feedback on the act;
  • Promote on a one on one basis;
  • Build a targeted database for future events;
  • Build a loyal audience;
  • Link to merchandise and other promotions.

Considering the effort that it takes to promote an event and the little extra effort required in using online surveys to encourage further contact and all the immediate and long term benefits that will bring – it really couldn’t be any easier.

The following sample survey shows the feedback that could be used for a breaking band. Not only does it gather valuable feedback, but continues to promote the band, their recorded music and establishes the opportunity to encourage further contact.

Online Violin Lessons

                                                                               icon2 Filed under: Uncategorized | icon2 No Comments »

Learning to play the violin requires professional instruction and many hours of practice. Conventional violin lessons provide an opportunity to work directly with a qualified teacher. This type of instruction is personal and supportive and can be tailored to meet the student’s needs and skills.

Students who are studying the violin must learn many subtle and difficult techniques, and be able to perform them correctly. When playing any stringed instrument the smallest misstep can tarnish a performance. There are also bow positions, bowing techniques, and finger positions and placement that must be mastered.

If an individual is unable to demonstrate a particular note, it is easy for the teacher to identify and correct the problem. Learning to use the bow is another obstacle for many beginning violinists. Once again, a personal instructor can make the corrections and show the student how the technique should be performed.

Pros and Cons of Conventional Violin Instruction:

This one on one, personal instruction is extremely valuable, as is the immediate feedback that teachers provide. The drawbacks to conventional violin lessons include the high cost for lessons and the commuting that is involved. Scheduling conflicts for either student or teacher can also can interrupt regular lessons.

Online Violin Instruction as an Alternative:

The alternative method to live teaching is to use online violin lessons. This is an instructional method that is becoming more popular every day. People who want to learn how to play the violin can sign up for any one of dozens of courses now available.

Some of the top violin teachers are producing online courses for eager students. With this type of instant instruction available, it is easy to see why so many people are opting to try it. You are no longer limited to lessons from one or two people, you can choose your instructor from anywhere in the world.

Buying a New Guitar - Tips

                                                                               icon2 Filed under: Uncategorized | icon2 No Comments »

Custom Guitar Bulider Video

Guitars - handmade and custom guitars are still being built. This video shows a man who makes custom guitars, and it tells some interesting history of the guitars he’s made. Most guitar players won’t need to buy a custom or handmade guitar (and most can’t afford to). The good news is that guitar manufacturers have some good guitars at affordable prices for us “regular” folks.

Whether you are a beginner guitar player or an experienced guitarist…

Maybe you need to buy your first guitar, or you possibly want to buy a better guitar than the one you are using. Or, you may be wanting a different style of guitar or are just adding another instrument to a collection.

No matter your reason for buying a new guitar, do your research and homework first. This research can be done by searching for information you can find on the internet, in guitar magazines, or by visiting guitar stores. Through these three sources, you can compare prices and styles of guitars. You can also read many online blogs with great information about guitars and guitar lessons.

Find information about guitar manufacturers and read reviews by musicians, or if you have friends who play the guitar, you can also ask them for their opinions and recommendations. Go test out guitars in more than one shop (if you have guitar stores in your area). Don’t worry about whether you play well, you just need to try different styles and brands to see which suits you best. Hold the guitar out straight and look down the fretboard to make sure it is not warped or bowed.

Play it first before you buy a guitar!

When you try out a guitar that you might want to buy, when you strum there should not be a buzzing sound. Be sure that the distance of the strings from the fretboard is not too high (which makes the guitar much harder to play).

For electric guitars, check the volume by having the guitar plugged into an amplifier when you test it. Check the pickups and the tone and volume controls. Most music stores have a salesperson that can play a guitar - have them play something on a few guitars. If you can bring a guitar playing friend along to the store, they can be a resource to test guitars and give you an objective opinion.

Learning the price ranges for new guitars will help you know better which guitars will fit within your budget. You need to know the current prices and information about guitar brands before you try to negotiate with the guitar store salesperson. They are there to convice you to spend money - and they could possibly persuade you to spend more than you planned to spend.

If this is your first guitar, you probably should not consider buying your instrument in an online auction.The reason I can’t recommend buying through an auction is because you really should play a guitar before you buy it. How a guitar feels to hold and play is a very personal thing. You’ll be far happier with your new guitar if you do your research, try out guitars, stick to your budget and find a guitar that feels and sounds right.
